Intro

Well well, I know this game came out in 2009 but I liked it so much that I just had to make a review about it.
First, this is a game I have wanted for a long time to play so from a year ago I got it on my old windows based computer, which of course did not have the right specifications and then it made me unable to play the game because of crash and lag, even if I had a hardcore graphic card. So from a time ago i bought a macbook pro 15″ (right before the new Macbook pro came out of course). So yesterday I thought to myself, fallout 3 worked with wineskin (a software making it able to play exe. files by tricking the OSx to thinks its a .dmg file).

So I got it up running and surprisingly it worked, at the start I got a hell of a much lag so i decided to go onto the internet also called the web, to check this out and i were not the first one, there was a lot of comments on this about the mac running wineskin. So let me explain, wineskin is not the best software to run 3D games on, usually you will experience lag even if you have worlds greatest and best mac, linux or any other unix based OS (Operative System), so that makes bootcamp a lot much easier, bootcamp is a basic software which is preinstalled on the mac OS X this makes you able to change between windows and Mac OS X on the same computer, so simply explained its two OS’s on one computer. Theres a catch thought, you need to use space on your harddisk to make this work and who wants to waste GB  and money on Windows?, well most people who own a Mac computer does not want this, so thats why we use wineskin. If you have a Mac you  can use bootcamp of course, but its annoying sometimes and you will have to buy a legal version of windows.

problems with lag: you will have to have a iMac, Macbook Pro with dual graphic cards (two graphic cards). You won’t be able to play while your having on “power saver” and you MUST have on both graphic cards, i forgot to turn it on at the start and the game was unplayable. Then turn off V-sync (seemed to improve the game speed),set it on lowest setting and it should be able to play even if there is a very tiny tiny lag sometimes. However if you have one of the newer Macbook Pro’s with one of the intel i7 processing cores and up to 512MB of dedicated video memory (256MB works fine for me so if you have a 512 thats just an advantage).

PrototypeGameplay

Storyline: I’m not totally complete with the storyline yet I’m about 70-80 % done but so far I think i will be able to review it, well first the experience of it depends upon the person playing it, you either love it, like it or hate it. You get an depth about Alex Mercers life and what he have become and so on. I dont want to spoil anything so buy the game and you’ll find out. The storyline is about going around killing and smashing people into a wall. Mostly.

Upgrades and EP: You have something called Evolution points (EP), these points you can spend on upgrades like for example faster sprint, higher jump, new tricks and new powers. You get EP by killing, taking quests and so forth. There are a lot of upgrades to get, trust me.

Controls: This is the most annoying thing about this game, for example you have to hold shift to sprint and then hold W to go forward for then Press E to grab someone, then press the left mouse button to throw. These are stuff you get annoyed by the start but its necessary for doing the stuff you’ll be able to do,like special moves and that sorta stuff. However the controls are only annoying at computers not on gaming consoles

Graphics: I think the graphics are good enough, its not something annoying me at all, I just love the visual effects. There are a lot of other reviewers saying that the graphics are bad, well they are kinda right, Its not good but its neither bad. The Effects are really good, indeed.

Overall (8.5/10): Good and a time killer. worth buying and trying it out. Graphics are OK, and the gameplay is great.

  • Audio: Average
  • Graphics: Average
  • Fun: Great
  • Free-roam: Good
  • Storyline: Average
  • Gameplay: Good (Addictive and Fun)
*The long lost edit: I re-edited this post (a tiny bit) the 16th August 2011. Pardon me, there is still a lot of information that might not be necessary. Also, there might be tiny grammar mistakes I didn’t notice when editing, when I first got here, there was so many grammar mistakes I clearly got embarrassed. All new Mac’s after 2011 should be able to play this game fine over wineskin. Wineskin is known to slow down the computer utterly much, so please, if it is for windows, play it on windows natively. Wineskin is just an alternative (and slow), but you could also use virtual box (doesn’t have all the same support, so the game might now work) and bootcamp (like mentioned). If you got a windows computer, search for the minimum specifications for windows on this game. That was all.

It’s a good game, I had it when it first came out, it’s pretty amusing free-roaming and slaughtering some people. :)

But I never got round to completing it, you know getting all the memories, but I did complete the story line.

    Great game. :)

hi, i’m wondering if you had like me problems with the mouse during the game, the pointer is stuck at the center of the screen and it returns in that position every time that you arrest the mouse..
wich version of the engine are you using on wineskin?
    tnx

Sorry about the late reply, I don’t remember exactly what version of wineskin I used. But from what I can recall I didn’t have the problem with mouse getting stuck. I have heard that version 1.3.15 got some problems with the mouse so it might solve the problem if you try 1.3.14 or earlier versions of wineskin.
